The holiday decorating contest focused on “Decide with SORT,” a safety behavior and tool that can help with problem solving.
Artist Casey Downing Jr. was commissioned to create the piece that depicts Fairhope philanthropist Louis Mapp and Cullen Potter, a patient Mapp met while volunteering to rock newborns in the NICU at USA Health Children’s & Women’s Hospital.
The festivities are part of an ongoing initiative by the specially trained nurses and other providers to help make life a little more normal for the parents of severely premature and sick infants.
Since 2018, Project Inspire has served the community with a program that utilizes a robust curriculum to provide education, exposure and new experiences for select teens in the juvenile justice system.
Members of the Mapp Child and Family Life Department worked together with other volunteers and staff to create a winter wonderland in the courtyard, then helped patients select trees available in bright shades of turquoise, purple, white, pink, and lime green.
Update: The first Walk with a Doc will be held Saturday, Jan. 18, at 8:30 a.m. at the University of South Alabama Student Rec Center, with more walks to follow every month.

The idea is developing a completely patient-specific construct, customized implants that reconstruct the spine bones and patient-specific rods that create alignment of the spine, said Richard Menger, M.D., MPA, neurosurgeon and chief of complex spine surgery.
